Islam, a Religion Beyond the Middle East
The seventh grade students of McKinney Middle School have decided to do a project that disproves misconceptions about the Muslim community.
This group has decided to disprove the misconception that Muslims all live in the Middle East. Many people believe this to be true due to the fact that it was the birthplace of Islam, but we have found that miconception to be absolutely false.
The truth to this is that only 20% out of the 1,000,000,000 muslims worlwide live in the Middle East. That is just barely 200 million. The majority of all Muslims live in Asia (about 61.9%) and about 4.6 million Muslims live in the Americas.
This misconception acts as the base of many other misunderstandings of the Islamic religion. For example, the misconception that Muslim women are oppressed by men. But the truth is that only some Middle Eastern countries tend to subjugate women, not necessarily Muslim countries or the Islamic religion itself.
It is the specific countries, though people favor the idea that it is those of the Islamic religion who believe in the subduing of woman, therefore people tend to believe the mistaken idea that these Muslims all live in the Middle East as well.

Many people believe that a majority of Muslims live in the Middle East, but do they? To prove that they don’t, we have created this piece to show that this is a misconception. This Muslim boy and woman are blanketing the earth with their beliefs showing you that they are world wide rather than what many people think. The majority of muslims live in Asia-Pacific and many in Africa too. Since Muslims live all over the earth with many cultural differences this is a very diverse religious group.
